Program Overview

This past spring saw the rollout of CMS’s first mandatory bundled payment programs- the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) initiative (hip and knee replacements) and cardiac care. The proposed cardiac model would make hospitals financially accountable for the cost and quality of care for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) during inpatient stays and for 90 days following discharges. While the evidence to support bundled payments as a viable alternative to over-testing and fee for service is clear, what is less clear is precisely how an organization gets to smart execution and scale. The trend will continue and practitioners and their organizations need to consider how to strategically operationalize their care delivery systems. This program will present approaches and methodologies for how provider organizations can evaluate their existing care models and design new models aimed at driving reproducible and evidence-based clinical and economic outcomes. We’ll feature content experts and leaders at top hospitals in Massachusetts to share important information, best practices and lessons learned in this critical emerging area of practice.
