Program Overview

With payments shifting in healthcare to quality-based payment methodologies, it is critical for coders to understand coding for risk adjustment. Not only does this system better track patients and their full spectrum of medical issues, but it also enables optimal payment for the provider/hospital and helps recoup incentive dollars. This one-day course will feature an overview of Risk Adjustment and its impact through Diagnosis Coding.  It will help attendees to understand the various models of risk adjustment, financial impacts, diagnosis coding guidelines, and challenges associated with risk adjustment.  Risk-adjusted coding is here to stay- register today and stay ahead of the curve in emerging coding training!

More about our Faculty:  Cynthia Trapp, MS, CHFP, CMPE, CPCO, CPC-I, CPC, CCS-P, CHC

Cynthia Trapp is a leader in coding, compliance, and health care management.  She currently serves as the Director of Coding for the Massachusetts General Physician's Organization. Prior to that, Ms Trapp served as the Director of Professional Coding and Coding Education at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA.  Her experience in healthcare spans over 28 years in such roles as Practice Administrator for large and small practices and Director of Professional Billing for a 650 physician practice.  In addition, she has served as a member on the Board of Directors of the National AAPC Chapter Association and has held numerous officer positions for the AAPC local chapters.  Cynthia is an educator, consultant, speaker, volunteer, and has multiple published articles on various topics in health care.

Ms Trapp has a Master of Science Degree in Leadership with a concentration in Health Care Management from Northeastern University.  She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Urban Studies, an Associate Degree in Business Administration, and a Medical Coding Certificate from Northern Essex Community College, graduating with honors. 

Cynthia is certified as a Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) by the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and as a Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) by the American Academy of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE).  She is a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and a Licensed and Certified Instructor for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and is a Certified Coding Specialist – Professional (CCS-P) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).  Finally, Cynthia is certified in Health Care Compliance through the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) and is certified by the American Academy of Professional Coders as a Certified Professional Compliance Officer (CPCO).
