Manager - Clinical Health Data Analysis and Research

The Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association (MHA) is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization comprised of hospitals and health systems, related organizations, and other members with a common interest in promoting the good health of the people of the Commonwealth. Through leadership in public advocacy, education, and information, MHA represents and advocates for the collective interests of its members and supports their efforts to provide high quality, cost effective and accessible care.

Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association is seeking a full time Manager, Clinical Health Data Analysis and Research in its Health Care Finance and Managed Care Department. The Manager, Clinical Health Data Analysis and Research will develop comprehensive analysis of current and developing issues and trends in clinical performance measurement, health care quality and patient safety issues.

The successful candidate will support MHA’s legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts in this area, including monitoring developments; conducting independent and directed research; analyzing proposed regulations; preparing regulatory briefing, member communications and testimony.  This position will engage with members, stakeholders and regulators as required.

This position will be overseen by the Sr. Director of Health Care Finance and Research, and will support MHA’s Advocacy Team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing and providing guidance to members on a range of clinical performance measurement and quality and safety issues in collaboration with members of the healthcare finance, government affairs and clinical staff.
  • Gathering and analyzing data and establishing and maintaining databases, including synthesizing qualitative and quantitative information and identifying trends to produce written reports and presentations for association staff and members.
  • Monitoring federal and state legislative and regulatory changes impacting clinical performance measurement and quality and safety issues, including quality based payment reform initiatives such as value based purchasing.
  • Supporting the advocacy team in drafting regulations, legislation, etc. to help advance MHA’s advocacy agenda.
  • Developing written materials, presentations to members, other stakeholders and regulators/legislators, and contributing to coalition building efforts of MHA members, advocacy groups and others in the community with limited direction.
  • Functioning as a coach to less experienced team members, as well as championing excellence, customer service and collaborative team behavior.
  • Supporting MHA mission and staff through team building activities, community involvement and wellness.
  • Maintaining excellence in customer relations both internal and external.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Successful candidate must have undergraduate degree from a 4 year college or university. 
  •  Candidate must have 3-5 years’ experience in clinical performance measurement, health care quality and patient safety issues.  Knowledge of related health care trends, new developments and terminology desired.
  • A Master’s degree from an accredited United States masters prepared program, including a focus on health policy preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills, research capability and comfort working with databases.
  • Ability to work independently and excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Knowledge of personal computer applications such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint essential.
