The following legislative and administration re-assignments this past week affect the healthcare community.
The Massachusetts Telemedicine Coalition (tMED) today testified in support of state legislation to advance and promote access to telemedicine services for patients in the commonwealth. HB578
MHA – joining with the Massachusetts Health Council, the Boston Foundation and the American Heart / American Stroke Association – testified before the Joint Committee on Revenue in strong support of a tiered excise tax proposal on sugary drinks.
SNE-PTN is one of 29 networks across the country selected and funded by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to prepare clinicians to participate in alternative payment models in the future.
The Organization of Nurse Leaders – Mass., R.I., N.H., and Conn. chose its new leadership team during its annual meeting June 16 and 17.

Ray Campbell has been named the new executive director of the state’s Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA), effective August 1.
The patient centered medical home (PCMH) PRIME program seeks to integrate behavioral health care into primary care and certifies practices that meet a majority of these criteria.
New England Society for Healthcare Communications honored 58 hospitals, healthcare entities, and marketing/advertising agencies for excellence in marketing, public relations, and communications.

Peter Healy, the current president and CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton, has been appointed to the newly created position of president of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston.
On Friday, May 27, MHA, the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General, and the National LGBT Health Education Center at the Fenway Institute co-sponsored an important training session.
The Massachusetts Senate decisively approved legislation Thursday that would protect the rights of transgender residents.

MHA and its member hospitals, health systems and other affiliates joined their colleagues across the country in lauding the vital contributions of nurses during this year’s National Nurses Week, May 6 to 12.
MHA submitted a letter to EOHHS Assistant Secretary Daniel Tsai highlighting comments and recommendations related to the development of the MassHealth Accountable Care Organization (ACO) program.
Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth has agreed to a $15 minimum wage as part of a recently ratified union contract. The pay increase is effective immediately.
