Daniel J. McHale, Vice President, Healthcare Finance & Policy
Dan McHale leads MHA’s advocacy and analysis of state health coverage programs and related hospital financing. Dan led a member-driven effort to significantly improve hospital financing in the state’s Medicaid program through a revamped provider tax and hospital spending plan that supports health equity, clinical quality improvements, safety net providers, delivery system reforms, and reimbursement for hospital services provided to MassHealth patients. Dan is currently leading the association’s work with membership to develop new MassHealth hospital incentive programs on health equity and clinical quality designed in collaboration with EOHHS as part of the state’s 1115 Medicaid waiver.
Dan joined MHA in 2002 and participated in the policy developments that reformed the state’s Uncompensated Care Pool and expanded health insurance to uninsured residents. He has been a passionate advocate to bolster and protect the state’s health coverage gains while ensuring Massachusetts hospitals have the necessary resources to support the care they provide to patients. During the COVID-19 emergency, Dan supported MHA members in advocating for state and federal financial relief as well as regulatory accommodations.
Prior to joining MHA, Dan worked for the Massachusetts Division of Medical Assistance (Medicaid) and received his BA in economics from Fairfield University.
