James P. Sadowsky, an East Longmeadow resident who has served as both a member and Chair of Baystate Health’s Board of Trustees, has been awarded the 2019 Trustee Excellence in Leadership Award from the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association (MHA).  Each year at the association’s annual meeting, MHA honors the significant contributions of a trustee leader whose professional achievements have been of exceptional value to the healthcare community. 

Sadowsky was presented with the award by Dr. Mark A. Keroack, Baystate Health’s President & CEO and Immediate Past Chair of MHA’s Board of Trustees.

“Jim reinvigorated Baystate’s board by injecting passion and community commitment to its work, and stressing performance excellence, quality, and patient safety as well as patient experience as first priorities,” Keroack said. “He led the trustees through two of the most turbulent years in the history of Baystate Health, during a time where we saw major achievements and successful crises management that affected hospital acquisition and transitions, leadership restructuring, financial turnaround, establishment of a medical school regional campus, and launch of a Medicare accountable care organization. Through it all, Jim’s steadfast presence and involvement was both a calming force and an inspiration.”

Sadowsky also has been recognized for his long-term philanthropic support with a particular focus on pediatric emergency and cancer care, not only through personal donations but also by engaging other donors both for both Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Baystate Health. The Sadowsky's generosity is providing care for the children of western Massachusetts today - most visibly through Baystate Medical Center's Sadowsky Family Pediatric Emergency Department and the Sadowsky Center for Children.
