MHA Statement on Combatting Hate and Racism

April 20, 2021
“While today’s verdict marks the conclusion of a critical legal process, it is just the beginning of the work that lies ahead in building a better, more just America. Here in Massachusetts, our hospitals and healthcare organizations are committed to being a driving force for change that simply cannot wait any longer.

Our healthcare system has a sacred responsibility to value every life, to heal, and to understand the challenges our patients face as members of an imperfect society. Combatting racism and hate is not just our prerogative – it is indeed an integral part of our mission. And as the past year has demonstrated, it is all too often the difference between life and death.

We echo the message sustained by our community members, patients, and caregivers: Black Lives Matter. George Floyd’s life mattered.
