MEMBER MOMENTS: Cambridge Birth Center Scheduled for July Opening

Cambridge Health Alliance recently began a Labor of Love newsletter to, among other things, convey information about the re-opening of the CHA Birth Center for deliveries in early July.
The recent issue of the newsletter discusses how the birth center is collaborating with the health system’s psychiatry department “to offer robust, timely mental health services for pregnant and postpartum patients and patients who suffer a miscarriage.” The center also participates in the Perinatal Quality Improvement Network (PNQIN) to “employ an equity-based approach to quality issues such as interventions for postpartum hemorrhage and timely management of hypertension.”
As part of its effort to focus on underserved populations and those who may face language barriers, CHA’s center has expanded its doula program to include 19 doulas from numerous countries that speak 13 languages.
“All CHA doulas are deeply rooted in their communities and play an active role in educating community members about the importance of prenatal care,” the newsletter notes. “Several are currently teaching free childbirth classes at CHA in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole. The doulas will also play an important role at our upcoming community outreach events, teaming up with midwives and community health workers to bring valuable healthcare and birthing expertise to their communities.”
