Boston Business Journal interviewed Boston Medical Center’s Executive Medical Director Dr. Ravin Davidoff this week about how BMC is integrating the two former Steward Health Care hospitals acquired after Steward’s bankruptcy in 2024.

BMC took control of the former St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton and Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, rebranding them as BMC Brighton and BMC South.

Davidoff spoke about aligning the culture of the institutions, inheriting facilities that were in disrepair, and the effort to get all of the system’s hospitals on the same electronic medical record system to allow for clinical integration and other efficiencies.

Reporter Isabel Hart wrote, “Rebuilding volume has been difficult because of the way Steward set up the referral network, Davidoff said. Patients were referred to the campuses for higher-level care by primary care and other physicians, but the hospitals themselves did not have independent patient volume. ‘When the Steward system fell apart, many of those referrals, in terms of volume, dropped off because they stayed elsewhere, or they went elsewhere,’ he said.”

Rebuilding primary care volume “is a critical factor for us going forward,” Davidoff added.
