MEMBER MOMENTS: Making Strides for Safer Work Environments

Voices in Healthcare logo

Massachusetts hospitals are taking nation-leading steps to address safety and violence prevention in their facilities. Over the past decade, they have undertaken united efforts to centralize and share incident data, develop comprehensive facility guidance, endorse a united set of principles for patient and visitor codes of conduct, and champion comprehensive violence prevention legislation on Beacon Hill.

Leaders from MHA and its Healthcare Safety & Violence Prevention Workgroup (HSVPW) recently led a webinar to reflect on the journey thus far and discuss where their collective work is heading. The HSVPW co-chairs are Christi Barney, RN, vice president of quality and patient safety and chief health equity officer at Emerson Health; and Brendan Riley, director of security, parking, and transportation at Lahey Clinic.
