MEMBER MOMENTS: UMass Chan-Lahey Regional Medical School’s Inaugural Class
The inaugural class of the UMass Chan-Lahey Regional Medical School began studies this Wednesday. Thirty-two students are enrolled in the LEAD@Lahey program that has an emphasis on health systems science and leadership.
A Boston Business Journal article on the new program outlined how students will complete their studies. They “will spend one day a week at the Burlington campus in their first and second years of medical school while the other days will be spent at the main Worcester campus. In the third and fourth years, when the curriculum is less classroom-based and more hands-on with patients on clinical rotations, all patient interactions will take place at the regional campus.”
Dr. Susan Moffatt-Bruce, president of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center and professor of surgery at UMass Chan-Lahey, said of the new students, “Their North Star is around changing the healthcare landscape. They’re fearless because they’re here to transform healthcare.”
