“It is a worrying sign that two-thirds of Massachusetts health systems were operating at a loss through June, especially knowing the biggest test for our hospitals is still to come. Sweeping policy changes on the horizon will expose hospitals to more than $1 billion in losses, placing immense pressure on their operations while threatening the commonwealth‘s healthcare safety net. In what has become an increasingly fraught environment for hospitals to carry forth their mission, they will be counting on bold, collaborative policy action to help maintain care services and fuel the local economy.”
